Shobha Sen (also known as Sova Sen) is a Bengali theatre and film actress. She was wife of Utpal Dutt and the couple had one daughter, Dr. Bishnupriya Dutt,who is a professor of theatre history in the School of Arts and Aesthetics at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She had four grandchildren. After graduating from Bethune College, she joined Gananatya Sangstha and acted in the lead female role of ‘Nabanna’. She joined the Little Theatre Group in 1953-54 which later became Peoples’ Theatre Group.
Leela Roy née Nag (2 October 1900 – 11 June 1970), was a radical leftist Indian politician and reformer, and a close associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. She was born into an upper middle class Bengali Hindu Kayastha family in Sylhet in Bengal (now in Bangladesh and educated at the Bethune College in Calcutta, graduating with a gold medal in English. She fought with university authorities and became the first woman to be admitted to the University of Dhaka and earned her M.A. degree. Co-education was not permitted in Dhaka University. The then Vice Chancellor Philip Hartog gave a special permission for her admission.
